Last week, after three weeks of intense rehearsals and three more weeks of beautiful, emotional performances, Passing Strange ended its journey at Mixed Blood Theatre Company.
I have never been so challenged, physically, during a show – there were at least two moments where dancing, singing, and breathing vied for top priority – and I am so proud of the work we put forth. Each night, the energy in the Firehouse was palpable; we could literally feel our audiences! Like electricity, they gave us even more fuel to power through our rock concert slash play. Even Stew, who co-created this beautiful piece with Heidi Rodewald, wanted in on the action:
On behalf of the entire Passing Strange cast and crew, Dear Prince: we’re a little disappointed you never responded to Stew because it would have been AMAZEBALLS to have him rocking out in the house!!
This show also gave me another opportunity to explore the Twin Cities (which I have honestly come to love), and get to know some wonderfully talented people:
And I will miss every single one of them. I feel like I’ve found a home at Mixed Blood. So clearly, I need to figure out a way to go back. Preferably often 🙂
Until then, it’s back to the grind here at home in New York – my poor, bruised, sore body surely appreciates the break from musical theater life! – until the next challenge comes my way.
Here are some of my favorite moments from the show, in no particular order. Enjoy!
